Gingerbread and Peppermint Floating Gatefold Card

I'm not sure what it is about Fancy Fold cards, but I find myself drawn to making them over plain flat cards. I think it's the challenge of making something that literally pops in your face. These floating gatefold cards do just that - they pop as soon as you open them.

They are relatively simple to make, they just take a little time and consideration when placing the floating pieces inside to ensure that you can still open and close the card easily.

On the front of the card started by using some of the Gingerbread and Peppermint DSP for the base layer. I've then used some of the cards from Gingerbread and Peppermint Memories and More card pack to form the sentiment on the front of the card. And finally, I've used some left over biscuits from the wreath last week (you can see it here if you haven't seen it before) with some Rhinestones to finish it off.

Inside, I've stamped the card with one of the sentiments from the Frosted Gingerbread stampset and placed some more biscuits on layers of cardstock and the Gingerbread and Peppermint DSP.  To make them float, you need a 4" long piece of card (Width doesn't really matter as long as it's not wider then the item's you want to float). Score this at 1", 2" and 3", then fold to create a square. Adhere the two open ends to the card - one to the flap and one to the base - opening and closing the card to make sure it will close and also open flat. When securing the floating square - make sure you line it up with the edge of the side flap so that it will close.

You may notice that the card does not close completely on it's own. Some people will make a belly band to help it close, however I've use mini magnets on the inside to secure my cards.

Here are some more variations to the same card, using different patterns from the DSP and different images from the card pack. Below I've included a list of the product's I've used in these cards, If you click on the link you will be taken to my online store where these are available for purchase.

I hope you've enjoy looking at the card's I've made.

Until next time

Happy Crafting.

Penguin Playmates Christmas Ornaments

Something I have discovered with making something new, is that once you start it's often difficult to stop!

After making the Peaceful Prints Ornaments yesterday, Today I wanted to try to create another set of ornaments that were a bit different. So back to Pinterest, and there I found a tutorial for this ornament by The Paper Pixie. It is similar to the one I made previously - but it's longer, which will be perfect for those slightly larger gifts.

I've decorated these ornaments using the Penguin Playmates DSP . You can see the DSP is two sided, one side with cute little penguins and friends, and the other side with different patterns. I've used the pattern side for my ornaments, but you could use either side. The Penguin Playmates DSP is only available for the next two days and you can only get by placing an order for $90 or more on my online store. So if you would like to receive this beautiful DSP you'd better place your order today. I've included a list of all the product's I've used to create these ornaments below. You can click on the images to go straight to my online store or you can use the add all to cart button to purchase all these items ready to make your own Penguin Playmate Christmas Ornaments.

Here's a photo of the two different ornament's I've made with a chapstick for size comparison. You can see that today's ornament is about a third taller than the previous one. Both styles of ornaments open up at the top so you can stuff them full of goodies ready to be hidden on your Christmas tree.

You can access the tutorial I followed here. You will notice that The Paper Pixie has placed DSP on the triangular inside folds, however I was happy to leave them empty. It's one of the things I love about making my own items - you can tailor make items to your own preferences.

I hope you've enjoyed looking at these ornaments, keep checking back because there will be more ornaments to come using different DSP and maybe even some different designs.

Until next time,

When scrolling through Pinterest (THE ultimate procrastination tool) I discovered a tutorial for making these sweet little Christmas Ornaments which double up as a gift box! How awesome are these!

I confess that they are also more than a little addictive and I may have made way more than I need but once you've made your first one, you will see that they are deceptively simple to make.

Here you can see how the top opens up and you can hide treats or small gifts inside ready to hang on the Christmas tree. It's the perfect way to hide gifts in plain sight and to stop those little items being misplaced!
