I love making fun fold cards and every year I challenge myself to learn a new fun fold card for Christmas.
This years card is a Hexagon Floating fun fold card and I think that they look stunning.
I also discovered that I could illuminate these cards by placing a (battery) tea light candle inside and it picks up the gold fleck in the DSP and they just pop with WOW!
This is a 6x6 inch card that folds flat and I have included the measurements for these cards below.
The three cards that I am showing you today feature the absolutely stunning Season of Elegance 12 x 12 Specialty DSP. These papers feature the colours Basic Beige, Cherry Cobbler, Grey Granite, Lost Lagoon, Mossy Meadows, Old Olive, Pretty Peacock and Real Red with gold foil layered into the paper. This paper is lovely and thick and just gorgeous.
The window sheets were used to create the front of all three of these cards - and they really make the cards look fabulous as well as adding additional stability to the front of the card.
The first card features the green coloured DSP. I have used Old Oliver for the base and Mossy Meadow's for the mats. I have used the decorative tree's dies to cut out the tree that is the central feature of this card. I heat embossed the sentiment from the Peaceful Season stamp set.
My second card for you today features the blue sheet of the DSP and I have used Pretty Peacock for the base and the back of the DSP for the mats. For this card I placed some tone on tone stamped village images from the Shepherds Care stamp set and after stamping the shepherd on white cardstock I have fussy cut him and off set him to the left of the card face. Again I have heat embossed the sentiment. This sentiment comes from the same stamp set used for the rest of the card. With this card I have stamped the star onto a scrap of cardstock, fussy cut it and then covered the whole star in gold embossing powder and heat embossed it to create the shinning star which I have placed on the right of the card.
My final card features the red sheet of DSP. I have created the base using Cherry Cobbler card and then used the back of the DSP for the mats. I have stamped the images from the Winterly Tree Tops stamp set onto white card and coloured them using Stampin Blends. The bird was die cut from the Nest's of Winter 12 x 12 DSP. again the sentiment is from
the Peaceful Season stamp set, and I have heat embossed it in gold. I have also heat embossed around the edge of the mat to create an extra pop of colour.Recipe:
To make these cards you need:
One piece of 6 x 6 card for the back panel
One piece of 6 x 6 7/7 card for the front panel
Score the back panel at 2 and 4 inches , fold both edges to the middle and burnish.
Score the front panel at 3/8, 2 1/2, 4 1/2 and 6 1/2 on the long edge.
Cut the front panel by turning on the short edge, measure 1 1/4 from the edge and cut from the 1st score line to the last score line. Repeat with the other side, then fold and burnish the edges.
For the mats you need: (I used the back side of the DSP or card)
Three back panels 1 3/4 x 5 3/4
Six front panels 1 3/4 x 1
For the top mat you need: (I used DSP)
Three back panels 1 1/2 x 5 1/2
Six front panels 1 1/2 x 3/4
To construct the card:
Add tear and tape to the side flaps of the front panel and place small strips of tape inside the front to hold the window sheets.
Cut three pieces of window sheet - 1 3/4 x 6 place these as central as possible within the front panel and burnish well to hold them in place.
Line up the front and back of the card (the DSP goes on the inside of the card on the back panel), remove the backing from the tape and fold them over the back of the card. Repeat on other side.
Add die cut image to the front middle (or side) of the card.
Optional: add a plain piece of card 1 3/4 x 5 3/4 to the middle back of the card for writing your message.
These measurements from Tricia Smith at Smiths Crafty Creations and she has a fabulous YouTube clip that walks you through putting the cards together.
